Playing Hero Mode has opened my eyes to a few things and unless stated otherwise these are my views.
1. Hero mode is only harder because you take twice the damage from everything. Generally this means that while you are wearing the green tunic even if you have ten heart containers two hits your dead... Green is like wearing no armor, blue is like the green, and red is like the blue. By the end you'll take less damage and swear that your armor gained another hidden color but it isn't about what you're wearing, it is all about the player. I, the player, got smarter. By the end of the game in Hero Mode I was not charging in rooms and tackling enemies with just my sword. I was fighting them long distance and using just about anything I could get my hands on (pots, skulls, bushes, rocks).
2. Only if you have decent aim is the bow and arrow your friend.
3. During both play throughs there were a handful of useless to never used things in my inventory. The boomerang was just as useless in Hero Mode as it was in regular, just use the hook shot. Unless I was in a really tight spot (aka the flying floor tiles) I didn't really use either of my shields. Scoot and Foul fruits were nice ideas but past an initial try I didn't use them. The same went for the yellow and purple potions, nice ideas but I never used them past an initial try.
4. Fairies that use to be my friend now suck ass. I'm gonna have to buy potions and pray a little harder to make it through 'the end of the day'. To bad I cannot follow through with this thought. Why because I forget that I have potions and I die. I'd rather stick to fairies and prayers. They may only give me a handful of hearts but at least they revive me.
5. Auto equip is not all that different from regular equip. The difference is that while you are on the quick equip menu enemy's can still hurt you. Furthermore figuring out how to use it requires looking it up on the internet so why bother. I'll stick to the item menu I method and live, thank you very much.
6. This time around I've somehow had the time to slow down and look around. So far this time around I've found a fairy pond I didn't know about, a place were I can walk through trees, and a book in Lorule that Ravio shares his feelings about his last three days in his kingdom.
7. Mini games suck...Who has time for half a dozen of these damn things. Don't they realize I desperately need those heart pieces?
8. Must have Rupees ASAP. I died way to much to keep 'starting over'. Don't tell me to go treasure hunting. I didn't bother with them the first round and during the second I only did a couple. Too much time spent for the reward given. A comparison would be chasing down a highly trained assassin for two rupees.
9. Those sword practice dolls, there is one at Link's house, can be chopped down. It's takes five or so hits. I never really counted. It will not give you rupees or hearts for destroying it. The first time I ever hit it (way back in regular mode) I felt bad for disturbing the bird. Would have been funny if the bird had acted like a chicken and called a few hundred of its friends.
10. Perfect game in Hero Mode is not easy peasy. The Maimais aren't that tough to find (I missed ten and used a guide to finish them up). I didn't need a guide to find the hearts, probably because I was searching every nook and cranny to make my life easier. With the weapons upgraded via Mother and the sword being upgraded via the Black Smiths that leaves the Super Net and Super Lamp. So with that in mind I made a bee line for the Treacherous Tower, I figuratively kicked the door in, and charged in like a bull. Epic Fail! Over and over again, EPIC FAIL! With the blue armor I just barely managed to get the heart piece. I thought I'd be better off with the red armor. Wrong! The Treacherous Tower is doable in Hero Mode but it is a Suicide Mission. Believe what the she-devil at the entrance says... zero come back alive.
11. Ravio is a jerk. Don't believe me? Well then take your happy butt to Link's house that he has taken over and buy up all his wares. Now head out into the world and die a few times. Pay attention to his remarks. After a couple of times you will never want to return home again, EVER! Why? Simply put you won't want to read the bull crap he spouts.
12. Visit the lady and play nice with the Cuccos, she'll give you a heart piece for doing so. The other alternative is to hack away at the closet Cucco, doing so will result in a flock of them coming to aid their comrade. They aren't as aggressive as they were in other games. While wearing red armor I only lost one heart when hit by a Cucco. Since this Cucco instigation was purely based on curiosity I walked away after picking the fight. The Cuccos did follow but only for a few seconds. I didn't have to enter a building to tame the savage beasts, I mean Cuccos. They gave these fowl more of a purpose on this Zelda title but you should already know that if you've played through the entire game at least once.
Things I learned while reading reviews about the game. To me I found these to be incredible useful while playing through Hero Mode.
1. There is a money tree! It is in Hyrule behind the Black Smiths shop. To refresh the tree simply stop in to see the Black Smith. You don't even have to talk to him. The later is my finding. The tree is from the internet. I cannot express how useful this tree was to me (I died way to much in Hero mode to continue to rent).
2. There is a way to cheat in Hyrule Hotfoot but it is only accessible after the first half of the game is complete. You need the rifts between worlds to be present. The second thing you'll need to do is activate the weather vane in the Skull Woods. Once you have those two things go and start the game. After starting the game hop down and enter into Lorule. The rift is just a couple steps to the left. Once in Lorule ring the bell, and be quick about the selection. Timers still ticking. Once you've taken a quick flight to the woods head to the broken down house that in Hyrule is Rosso's house. Try to avoid cutting bushes and hitting enemies as this slows you down. Once you exit Rosso's house your end destination is just a couple steps to the north. You should be able to complete this challenge walking but if you feel like being on the safe side use the Pegasus Boots. If you use the broom in Hyrule they will tell you that you cheated. I don't know why but they cannot track broom use in Lorule so use it to your advantage and snag that heart piece because you're going to need it... especially in Hero Mode.
